Shaolin Kungfu is one of China’s first intangible cultural heritage treasures and a beloved part of the country’s traditional culture. Over the years, it has gained worldwide recognition and admiration. In fact, millions of people across the globe practice Shaolin Kungfu today. To ensure its preservation and promote a more systematic, scientific approach to learning it, Master Shi Yongxin, the abbot of Shaolin Temple, gathered monks, experts, and scholars to study and refine the practice. This collaboration led to the creation of The Tutorial Series on the Shaolin Kungfu Duanpin System.
This series serves as a clear set of standards for Shaolin Kungfu practitioners. It aims to build a consistent and standardized system for Shaolin Kungfu techniques, helping spread Shaolin Kungfu both within China and internationally. The goal is to celebrate and carry forward this valuable traditional culture while supporting the health and wellbeing of people everywhere. Following the guidelines of this system, Shaolin Temple welcomes disciples and enthusiasts from all over the world and carefully manages the awarding of ranks within the Shaolin Kungfu Duanpin system.
The system itself is made up of different ranks and levels, including nine main levels for both dan (rank) and grading. Each grading level is further divided into three sub-levels. To advance, practitioners must meet strict standards in both theory and technique. Successful candidates receive official certificates, badges, belts, and uniforms as recognition of their achievements.
